Abstract

The Seerah of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) has been extensively explored by countless Muslim scholars and authors across the world. Books on the Prophet’s biography exist in nearly every language, ensuring that no aspect of his life remains concealed. Both Muslim researchers and Western orientalist scholars have examined the Seerah, albeit with differing objectives. While some orientalist works approached the subject impartially, others, driven by bias, employed harsh language in their critiques. In response, Muslim scholars have mounted a vigorous defense of the Prophet, giving rise to a new facet of Seerah literature—what may be termed “Subjective Seerah.” This approach treats each dimension of the Prophet’s personal and public life as a distinct subject of study. A notable example is the literary work Arab ka Chand by Swami Lakshman Prasad, a non-Muslim author from the Hindu tradition, who expresses his profound admiration for the Prophet. Unlike many non-Muslim writings that merely recount factual details or focus on criticism, Arab ka Chand is a heartfelt literary composition that incorporates verses from Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and English literature, reflecting an in-depth study of the Seerah. Furthermore, the work portrays the Prophet as a true advocate of peace, harmony, and coexistence, thereby reinforcing the view that Islam was spread on the basis of peace rather than force.
